Please guide me about British spoken English

I've selected British English as my spoken English. Some times, I speak very slowly especially when a feeling dawns on me so I pause in some words. Deem that the word which I pause is "number". I say "number" but it takes one or two seconds to decide the next word, "eight" or "two". In these cases, should I pronounce "r"?
