Essay & Composition Writing

Please give some feedback on my proposal. Thanks very much.

Writing task: You are a member of the Youth Union Committee in the Faculty of English Language Teacher Education (FELTE). As a book-lover, you believe that reading habit should be encouraged among students due to its considerable benefits. However, based on your observation, reading is not a popular pastime among students in the faculty. Therefore, you decide to propose a plan to promote reading habit in FELTE.

Write a proposal (word limit: 350 words) to the Dean to express your concern, suggest some activities, and ask for any resources/support needed to fulfill the plan

PROPOSAL TO ENCOURAGE READING HABIT IN FELTE

Introduction

This proposal is to put forward operational schemes and demand for financial support from the faculty for stimulating students’ enthusiasm in reading.

Current status

As an avid reader, I perceive that reading is indispensable for gaining knowledge and communication. However, based on my supervision, individuals in our faculty are under a significant impact of social media due to its ubiquity. In spare time, they spend hours on surfing Facebook, Youtube as opposed to reading.

Activities

  1. Provision for libraries

As questioned, students go to the libraries in their free time with decreasing frequency. It is due to an obvious fact that the materials available in our libraries are primarily for academic purpose rather than entertainment. Thus, it is important for libraries to conduct preliminary investigation to ascertain which kind of reading could capture the attention of students. Such provision of materials will inspire students with reading, and make libraries become must-go places to enjoy reading.

  1. Bookworm club

Another possibility is to establish a Bookworm Club, which will be in lecturers’ charge and students’ company in FELTE. Not only will it be an open forum for book sharing but also provides considerable opportunities for students to make friends with those having the same hobby. Furthermore, a book review competition will be organized monthly by the club to motivate individuals to share about their preferred works. The winner will be given a well-deserved prize and other incentives.

Profits and Payment

To fulfill the intended plans, I need support from the faculty and public-spirited individuals. As estimated, the budget for all activities will be about 8 million VND. I look forward to having the faculty administer 5 million VND to cover the monthly provision and prizes. I strongly believe that our faculty will gain a high reputation for donating to these extracurricular activities.

Conclusion

In conclusion, my intention is to make material provision and organize a reading club, which will make a valuable contribution to supporting reading habit among FELTE members. I hope that the plans in this proposal meets with our faculty’s approval.

It is a rather long text, so I will highlight the errors in yellow, but only comment on some of them. The errors can be unnatural collocations, grammar errors, spelling errors or formatting errors.
