Please give some comments on my esays about tourism to remote areas

Topic:

Organized tour to remote areas and community is increasingly popular. Is it a positive or negative development for the local people and the environment?

My answer:

Traveling to far-off destinations and immersing into the local culture are becoming a burgeoning trend today. I think that this development brings about both positive and negative effects on the locals and the environment in equal measures, as will be discussed now.

On the one hand, the development of eco-tourism benefits the local people and their neighborhood in some ways. First, this trend gives the locals more employment opportunities apart from farming, thus they can increase their incomes by working as tourist guides to mountainous areas or sellers of local crafts. In other words, there would be an economical advantage for people living in these places. Second, the local government should pay more attention to protect remote regions which become tourist spots, so they would invest in conserving the cleanliness of the environment. For example, some small islands in my country are well-known for riding boat to sightseeing on the ocean; as a result, many efforts by local officials have been made to keep the waterway out of pollution.

On the other hand, the increasingly visiting of tourists to far-lung regions also poses some negative problems. The first drawback can be mentioned is that some tourists do not have good awareness of protecting environment, for example, they could litter unconsciously in natural landscapes or rivers. This will lead to contamination in the living places that the locals are trying to reserve. Another issue is that some local people, especially their younger generation, are less concerned about the preservation of their traditional customs due to the diverse cultures brought by foreign visitors. If the young in those places are not educated properly about their ethnic traditions, they may have loose connection with these norms. As a result, they are appealed to the new cultures of numerous tourists in different cultural backgrounds and gradually lose their practices.

In conclusion, despite some positive impacts, I do believe that the development of tourism to remote areas also is harmful to the environment and local community.
