Essay & Composition Writing

Please give me some feedback on my IELTS Writing Task 2. Thanks!

Some people believe that the only purpose of films is to entertain. But others say films should have educational value. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

In this digital age, the film industry is sophisticatedly developed and receives paramount concerns. A school of thought holds that the principal purpose of filming is serving entertainment demands, while others are in favor of educational productions. I would argue that both are equally crucial factors that create real values of a movie.

There can be little doubt that entertainment activities, including watching films play an integral part in human spiritual lives. It may eliminate depression and our negative emotional baggage from the hectic life, and also contributes to certain health benefits. If a certain movie makes us laugh, for instance, it elevates our mood and facilitates comprehensive development. Additionally, the ulterior reason why people watch a film is to escape from the excessive pressure of studying and working, so what they need is absolute freedom of knowledge and stereotypes, rather than passive education.

On the other hand, a film production that is highly rated must convey meaningful messages to the public and its audiences. The mentioned educational values do not have to be tedious theories or academic knowledge, they can be daily-life lessons, which raise people’s awareness about social problems or family intimacy. More specifically, a touching romance movie may change a person’s perspective on her life, trigger her positive feelings, and to some extent heal broken relationships. Regarding children, the impressionable generation, beautiful actions or dialogues in a film can have great impacts on their mindset, and thus learning process occurs naturally.

In conclusion, a successful movie should be able to offer an enjoyable and educational experience, so that people can wind down and learn something at the same time.
