The diagram illustrates how aluminum products such as drinks cans are recycled. Overall, the process involves various main stages, beginning with the collection of aluminum containers and ending with the new products being ready for reusing.
In the first stage, aluminum products are sorted into a distinct bluebox. These products are mixed with scrap from aluminum plant and the mixture is then melted down in a furnace. After that, molten aluminum is poured into casts, where it gets formed into large ingots.
Moving to the next stage, these ingots are passed through a reversing mill, where they are flattened into very thin sheets. Following that, these sheets are transported to a plant to produce new aluminum products including cans. Finally, the resulting products are reused for different purposes. Once they are thrown away, they will be collected and mixed with aluminum scrap and the whole process is repeated all over again.
