In detail, the majority of this money was spent on non-essential goods and services, which rose from 250 to 270 dollars. Money spent monthly on food and housing slightly increased by 5 dollars, reaching 160 and 100 dollars in 2001. Meanwhile, monthly spending on electricity and water witnessed a more dramatic rise, from 75 to 120 dollars over the period.
On the contrary, a drop from 70 to 45 dollars was seen in Australian family's monthly expenditure on transport. Similarly, that on clothing fell by 10 dollars in the same period, and this category cost the least in both mentioned years.
