Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve growing traffic and pollution problems

HERE'S MY WRITING:

Opinions diverge on whether rising petrol price is the most effective measure to tackle escalating traffic and pollution problems. I disagree with this statement, as from my perspective, improving public transit and raising people's awareness are better methods.

Proponents of higher fuel costs often point out that this approach can reduce the frequency of private car usage and encourage citizens to use public transport or environmentally friendly means of transport such as bicycles, effectively alleviating traffic and pollution issues. However, this thinking is flawed for various reasons. Firstly, only a small proportion of people, probably those in the lower class of the community, would be deterred from using their vehicles due to the increased price of fuel. As a result, the impact of this method on traffic congestion would be negligible. In addition, besides private vehicles, various factors can be contributed to environmental degradation like waste from human's daily activities or emissions from factories; therefore, this problem will remain unresolved.

In my view, there are better ways to solve these issues. To begin with, improving the quality of public transport, for instance, providing passengers with more convenient and comfortable buses as well as increasing the routes so that people from everywhere can be accessible to this service. Consequently, this approach will remarkably reduce the use of personal cars. Moreover, media campaigns should be run so that people can perceive the significance of utilizing public transit and protecting the environment. In fact, this method has proved effective in countries such as Sweden and Germany, where the administration has successfully inspired inhabitants to use public transportation by introducing advertising campaigns.

In conclusion, I believe that increasing gasoline prices is not an optimal way to decrease traffic and pollution problems. Alternatively, the government and authorities should consider enhancing transportation systems and conducting media campaigns in order to solve those vexing problems.
