Task 1: The chart below gives information about the age of women in Australia when they give birth to their first child in 1966, 1986 and 2006.

HERE'S MY WRITING:

The bar graph compares the percentage of the age of giving birth to the first child of Australia's women in three years: 1966,1986 and 2006. In general, women in Australia tended to give birth later in their life over time and the age group of more than 40 remained lowest in the 40-year period.

In 1966, the majority of women aged 20-24 had their first baby (60%), while in 1986 and 2006, this percentage dropped to approximately 40% and 30% respectively. Similarly, the proportion of teenage girls had considerable declines, which in 2006 was about 3 times lower than that of 1996 (35%). By contrast, there was an increase in the 25-29 group, from nearly 40% (1968) to 50% twenty years later before falling back to over 40% in the last year of the period. Women between the ages of 30 and 34, however, went up considerably by almost 40% in 2006, compared to 1996 (12%). By similar, there was a significant rise in the percentage of women between 30 and 34 years old. In addition, Australia's women who were 40 or above accounted for the smallest proportion in the three years given, just under 5%.
