The diagram provides a comparison of the usage of forested land between six continents during the period from 1990 to 2005.
From an overall perspective, it is clear that Europe spent more lands on forests resources than other parts of the world. In addition, the millions of hectares of forested land in Europe and Asia showed an upward trend, whereas the figures for the remaining parts decreased over the period supplied.
At the beginning of the period shown, the amount of land that Europeans used for forest growth was highest, at precisely 989 million hectares. The data in South America was slightly lower, at 946 million ha, followed by Africa, North America and Asia, at 749 million ha, 708 million ha, and 577 million ha, respectively. However, the acreage of forests in Oceania was accounted for the lowest number, at only 199 million ha.
In the period from 1990 to 2005, Europe witnessed a gradual increase in the amount of land spent on forests, reaching a peak of 1001 million ha. The area of forested land in Asia suddenly fell to 570 million in 2000 but then rose to 584 at the end of the period. In 2005, the figures for forested areas in South America, North America and Africca were higher than 600 million, at 882 million ha, 705 million ha and 691 million ha, respectively. Oceania was the part of the world that had the smallest area of forest, at 197 million ha over 15 years.
