Letter Writing

Please give me an advice for my cover letter

Hi.

I'm going to apply PhD candidate position, so I wrote my cover letter. If you find any error, please correct them.

Dear Prof. *****,
It is a great honor to write to you. I am writing to express my interests in a PhD position in your
research group. In August 2013, I graduated with a M.S. of computer engineering supervised by
Prof. ***** in the computer engineering of *****, Rep. of Korea. I am confident my 2 years of research experience in master candidate
and two years of development experience in industrial field. They would allow me to contribute to
the successful research, development, and other related duties.

During my academic years, I performed research on CGRA
and other computer architecture, such as GPU and ARM processor. I proposed Evaluator-Executor
Transformation which is a novel approach to improve performance and energy efficiency of
conditional statement in CGRA. It is motivated from a loop of openCV that decreases the benefit
of CGRA. To solve this problem, I adopted loop fission technique to CGRA. This is executed with
only compiler modification, or with hardware extension. However, it was able to amplify the
disadvantage of CGRA, increasing reconfiguration time. With my advisor, I researched new
approach to reduce reconfiguration time, so we proposed SPIRA architecture, which integrates
sequential processor, such as ARM processor, and reconfigurabel array. Additionally, I studyed
Gem5 simulator, and parallel programming, such and CUDA on GPU and MPI.

After graduated, I have worked as a software developer at ***** for two years. My main
role is to improve embedded linux kernel by modifying task scheduler and CPU DVFS governor with
the comprehension of computer architecture. Besides, I contributed to ***** by developing system daemons.

These would provide me with the skill sets I need to be an effective researcher. These projects have included: designing and developing hardware and software, translating human readable code to machine readable instructions; managing computer resources in real time system; defining problem
and solving it; challenging new things and adapting it. In addition, I am diligent, persistence, honest, and cooperative as you guess from my previous work.

I would be excited to join your research group. I have built a strong background in computer hardware and software. What position I am considering is that researches something tightely related
to hardware and software, such as compiler, simulator & emulator, or application specific hardware. I am confident that your PhD position matches my interests and capability.

Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to the opportunity to speak with you and discuss the position in more detail. Please feel free to contact me at ***** or *****@gmail.com.

Yours faithfully,
