There are many types of music in this world today. Why do we need music? Is a traditional music of a country more important than the international music that is heard everyday nowadays?
Music always plays an important role in our daily life. From the moment that people appeared in this world, they’ve already known how to use some simple things to make a sound like striking rocks or imitating animals’ sounds. Music can bring everyone happiness, joy, or even sadness... Sometimes, at tough moments, a song is all we need to get motivated and to be optimistic. When we are sad, a joyful song would change our minds and raise us up to go through any difficulties. During war times, people listened to the songs with grand rhythm to overcome the fear and to keep believing in a beautiful life afterward. We hear people play music anytime at any place… Musing embellishes our life. Without music, life would be so boring and lose its meaning.
Nowadays, many new kinds of music appear and with globalization, people, especially, young people have a new trend of music. International songs with strange melodies and lyrics interest everyone. We hear less the traditional songs and some people even forget the existence of those songs. In my opinion, I always think that with a country, traditional songs are always more important than the music that everyone hears today.
Firstly, a song is a reflection of society and culture in which it’s produced. When hearing a traditional Vietnamese folk, for example, the song “floating water ferns and wandering-clouds”, a song with melodies and soothing lyrics, evoked in my mind an image of a Vietnamese woman who is so loving, faithful and loyal to her husband. These moral qualities are identical to Vietnamese women.
Secondly, traditional songs tell us about what happened in the past and about the services rendered to our country of ancestors. Thanks to those songs, we express our deep gratitude towards the old generations about what they did so that we could have a beautiful life today.
Finally, traditional songs connect people in a country no matter where they are living. For oversea compatriots, those songs remind them about their fatherland, about the values of tradition, culture and also of customs where they were born. Moreover, these songs help people to reminisce those years in the past in which they spent beautiful moments with family, friends, and relatives. For children, thanks to those songs, they learn more about the moral values of people in their country and would have the conscience to maintain and develop these beautiful things. That also contributes to the journey of making the history of their native land.
In conclusion, no matter what kinds of music that we like to hear, traditional music has always its important position in a country where it was born and also in the heart of every citizen of each nation.
