Topic: With many problems of transport and accommodation in cities, some governments are encouraging businesses to move to rural areas.

Do you think the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

In recent decades, the increasingly severe accommodation and transport problems in many cities have caused some governors to consider new policies, which is to encourage businesses to move to countryside regions. While this policy is advantageous in a few aspects, the advantages are more significant.

There are a few disadvantages arising from the policy of encouraging enterprises to move out of urban areas. This is firstly because if such a policy is adopted, workers in rural areas may be plentiful but they might not be as skilled as those in urban centers. As a result, a lack of skilled, experienced workers can be a serious problem for some companies. In addition to this, the wave of urban-rural business relocation may leave a number of city-based employees on the verge of unemployment. If they do not accept to travel long distances to work, they have no choice except to apply for a new job.

However, I believe the benefits of this policy outweigh the disadvantages. An important reason is land prices are cheaper and more available which is beneficial to businesses. For example, when enterprises are located in urban areas, their owners have to pay high taxes or pay land rent if they do not own the land where their company is located. Another important reason for the relocation of some companies is to relieve traffic congestion. This means that the majority of commuters will leave their personal transport at home and tend to use public transportation because of the long distance from home to office.

In summary, all the aforementioned points provide a compelling argument in favor of an urban-rural business relocation policy, despite some potential drawbacks. For these reasons, it is essential that all governments should adopt this policy.
