Many people work from home using modern technology today. Some people think that only the workers benefit from this and not the employer. To what extent do you agree or disagree.

Technology is the backbone of many businesses, especially in today's world. There are some businesses which offer the convenience of working from home to their employees. This phenomenon has rapidly caught on in the recent decade, especially in larger cities, where commuting to office every day in rush hour traffic is a major headache. I believe that the benefits of working from the confines of your home are available not only to employees, but also equally to employers.

Speaking from the point of view of employers, the benefits are two-fold. One aspect is the savings in rent which normally accounts for nearly 10-15% of the total expenses of a business. This large chunk of money spent by a business to house its employees in a swanky office solely to enhance its public appeal, can now be deployed for other useful purposes. This in turn, can lead to greater economies of scale and increase the profitability of the business, thereby benefitting the employer. The other benefit of the concept of working from home to an employer is the ability to employ people without any geographical restrictions, thereby enhancing the quality of employees. This would result in the formation of a quality team, irrespective of their nationality, leading to an immense benefit to the employer.

With regard to the employees, working from home, in my view, also has two advantages - autonomy when it comes to work and savings in time, which may help in strengthening family bonds. First and foremost, an employee working in the convenience of his home feels a sense of freedom which is difficult in an office setup. They may commence and end work as per their convenience and breaks can be taken more frequently, both of which are not feasible at the workplace. Finally, the amount of time saved in travelling to and fro to the workplace can be utilised for other essential purposes, such as taking care of the home and family. For instance, in many major cities of the world, people spend a minimum of 2 hours travelling to work, which could have be utilised by them to pick up their kids from school or shop for groceries.

To conclude, one cannot say that only employees benefit from working from home. The advantages are available to both employers as well, resulting in a win-win scenario for all parties involved.
