Please explain why the first sentence is more acceptable than the second

Please explain why (using grammatical terminology and evidence) the first sentence is more acceptable than the second:

a. Few physicists will ever receive the Nobel Prize.

b. *The Nobel Prize is ever received by few physicists.

Please help me. I've really got no idea what's the difference between them.
