The overall inventory for the U.S. herd is up 4.2 percent from last year at 70.98 million head, according to the 2017 USDA Quarterly Hogs and Pigs report released on March 30.
The breeding herd is at 6.07 million head, up 1 percent from a year ago and the market hog inventory is at 64.9 million head, up 4 percent from last year.
