Dear LL,

I assert that yours should got to be :
It means that I hope/pray that everything GOES well.

"Kept my fingers crosses" means that "One has done sth and hopes for its success". It doesn't mean that "It WENT well".

Am I right, LL?

I thought about that myself when I was writing the comment. If we say, I KEEP my fingers crossed, you're right. If KEPT, probably means that I hoped that it went well. Now, it may have gone well, and may have not. I don't know, I always make mistakes when it comes to "hope". I'll think about it!

How does it sound?
I finished my english grammar exam and kept my fingers crossed hoping for better result.

Hello!
I'd say "for A better result", and then it must refer to your previous exam, where your marks weren't very good.

No...No. My intended idea has been take out of context.

Meaning :
I wrote the exam and I'm keeping my fingers crossed hoping to get a better result in THIS exam.

How to paraphrase my previous example so that it conveys the above meaning.

Yes, but "better" is a comparative, so it always refer to something else, you compare whatever is better to something else; a "than" is always implied.

Yes, ofcourse I do know that usage of 'better'. I want to emphasise that 'i'm curiously hoping for a better result than the previous one'.

So, that gets me to the opinion that my previous sentence is absolutely right.

Isn't Anne?
