For those who don't live in the US, such crisis does exists and it affects millions of people. Health care costs have risen steadily over the years, especially in the last 3 years, insurance premium has skyrocketed . For a couple who has been laid off, their medical insurance is about $1000 a month un a program called COBRA which guarantees the rate up to 18 months. Since 2008, thousands of middle class families have suddenly become victims of this crisis. Compounded by budget cut and rising operating costs, community hospitals face problems of over-crowding, long lines and staff fatique and stress which indirectly affect the quality of care and patient safety.

In smaller communities, funding is drying up which has forced many hospital closures. To add to the crisis, there are millions of illegal aliens living in the US who have been using the medical services which are paid for by the tax payers.

It's a real crisis.
