Please explain about the difference between them?

I read two lines mean different in the book on English Grammar. right?

#1- I walked with my dog.
#2- I walked  my dog.

The second one makes it fairly clear that you took the dog out in order to give it some exercise.

The first merely says that you went out for a walk in the company of your dog.
