Please evaluate this question

Hi teachers,
According to this paragraph:
Where can I go? he thought. Perhaps I can escape from the country, but I want to see Olivia again before I leave … or before the police find me.

What did he wish before going away from the country? To see Olivia.

Maybe say "What did he wish to do before leaving the country?"

Sorry one more question:
The question is for a listening exercise, so it has to be a challenging question. The students have the questions and the CD but not the text.
Doesn't it sound correct to say in that question, '... before going away from the country?'

You could say, "before going away from the country" but in American English is it more natural to say, "leaving the country."
