Hi teachers,
According to this paragraph:
Alex said the name of his home town, and the driver said, Come on. I’m going near there. You can come with me.
Alex got into the front of the lorry, and the driver looked carefully into his face. Do I know you? He asked.
Alex said nothing, and waited. He felt very tired. The driver stared at him for a minute, then he smiled. No, I don’t know you, he said. Get into the back of the lorry. Nobody can see you there.

1. Where was the driver heading? Somewhere near Alex’s home town.
2. Did the driver examine Alex carelessly? No, he didn’t. He did it carefully.
3. Did the driver gaze at Alex shortly? Yes he did.
4. Why did Alex go into the back of the lorry? Because nobody could see him there.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jim,
Probably none.
Do you think they can get the meaning of why the driver smiled?

Hi Jim,
In about two weeks I'll finally try the experiment.
I have a question: Would the reasoning after, 'Yes, he did.', be appropriate as the explanation for that 'yes'?
Did the driver know Alex? Explain your answer.
Yes, he did. Because he told him that nobody could see him in the back of the lorry.

Yes, but it's a rather literal copy of the words of the story. Your students might choose any number of different ways to explain why the driver knew Alex, all of which mean pretty much the same thing, so I hope you won't require them to answer exactl

CalifJimI hope you won't require them to answer exactly what you've written here as the explanation.
Hi Jim,
Thanks once again. No, I won't. This was just an example, like yours. I should have said that to you.
