Topic: In most countries, fast food is becoming cheaper and more available Do you think the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?

My essay:

Nowadays, it goes without saying that fast food is popular at the global level, and it is becoming more and more reasonable as well as accessible. Some people believe that this development is beneficial to people eating habits; others, however, are concerned about the problems it may cause. I am of the opinion that the negative effect of this development may overweigh its positive one.

There is no doubt that fast food brings benefits to people in several ways. One obvious advantage is that the reduction in fast food’s price enables more and more people to access to foodstuff. It is clear that people with low income can not afford a meal in an upmarket restaurant, and low-price fast food is the best choice for their meal. Another good point is the convenience of consuming fast food. It’s no coincidence that fast food is called ‘fast’, it is because this kind of food can be consumed wherever you are, on the train, on the way to work, or even at the workplace if you are allowed. This is suitable for those who are swamped with work and do not have time to cook at home.

Apart from the aforementioned benefits, this development is very likely to cause some problems to people, especially on their well-being. One frequent criticism is that eating too much fast food can result in some dangerous health problems. Fast food contains a lot of cholesterol, sugar and additives yet nutrition, so it comes as no surprise that consuming these food on a regular basis can cause some diseases such as nutrient deficiencies, obesity, diabetes and even cardiovascular disease. Another important objection is that fast food can put people in poor physical condition due to lack of hygiene and safety. Stingy fast food can be made from insanitary ingredient, through processes that are not meeting the food safety and hygiene standards. This can lead those who consume it to food poisoning, which negatively affects their state of health.

On the whole, despite some undeniable benefits, the development of fast food seems to create more problems to people. Therefore, people should be cautious when choosing a fast foodstuff for their meal to protect their well-being
