Overall, households in rented accommodation were by far the highest percentage until 1961 while from 1981 to 2011; households in owned accommodation were the predominant. The maximum proportion in the figure was for rented accommodation in 1918.
In 1918, rented accommodation accounted for 77% of total households while only about 22% were for owned accommodations. The proportion of rented one decreased gradually to just below 60 % in 1961. By contrast, there was a dramatic increase in owned accommodation to reach almost 40% in the same year. In 1971, both types of household had the same percentage (50%).
