In the “Greatness of George Washington” author historian Gordon Wood starts his story with arguing that the George Washington is the only truly classical hero we have ever had. He had physical appearance of a classical hero, his modesty personality and his military exploits. Moreover, Gordon Wood believes that George Washington deserves fist-place honors, not a third-place followed by Abram Lincoln in first-place and Franklin D. Roosevelt second.

First, had all the physical attributes of a classical hero. He was very tall by contemporary standards, which made him a giant in his day, he looked down at everyone, he was full of energy, a superb athlete and healthy.

Second, was not well-educated president unlikely to other president. He never went to college. He always remained profoundly respectful of formal education. As a consequence of his lack of a formal liberal art education gave him a modesty he never lost. He always listening carefully to what was being said, pondering it. (need to add thesis sentence)

At the last, he led America’s Continental Army to victory over in the American Revolutionary War. He had the prestige, the military experience, the charisma and military bearing, the reputation of being a strong patriot. He was willing to sacrifice his personal desires for the greater good of his country. He gained his power by his readiness to give it up. Also his genius, his greatness.

is referred to as father of the nation. His appearance, personality is a perfectly fit into the American’s first president image. And it defined the presidency and set the standard for executive leadership. He was well aware of his reputation and his fame earned as the commander in chief of the American revolutionary forces. No American leader has ever left a more important legacy. He acquired at once a world wide reputation as a great patriot and a hero.
