Letter Writing

Please criticize SOP

Hi,
I wrote a SOP letter for applying in MA for game studies. I tried to follow a logical path. I started from my background and then followed by expressing my idea about the field and then I discussed about my interests and future plans.

I kindly request you to give me some critiques so I can correct my mistakes.
Thank you in advance.

Dear sirs and/or madams,

I am writing to you to express my interest in applying for the MA in Game Studies. I appreciate your patience and time for reading this letter and I hope that it would give you a clear image of my background and future plans.

Inspired by highly acclaimed video games of the time I decided to change my major from mathematics to art and I enrolled in BS for Graphic Design at XXX. and in parallel with my studies I started to sharp and develop my skills in 2D and 3D applications.

After graduating in 2008, I took part in making a 3D role playing game. As the first experience the result was not satisfying because of financial problems we encountered. But I learned that to have a better control on the quality of outputs I should to switch to 2D games which could be carried out on a low budget and small team.

In 2009 I felt that I need to continue my education in a closer field to game design. Since there was no game program in my country so I enrolled in MFA for animation at XXX. I learned about different styles of animating and how I can apply the appropriate ones to my work. In the second year of educating, I started my collaborating with Mr. XXX, the programmer and CEO of XXX, which led to releasing two successful 2D android game.

At the same time I was working on my dissertation which was titled " XXX" . Unfortunately I couldn't finish my dissertation because I received United States immigration visa and I had to move to the U.S quickly. But during my studies for dissertation, I learned Visionaire Game Engine and I made two adventure games and received feedback from people who had played them. This cycle of study, production and feedback was very interesting and informative and it made the importance of study and research more evident to me. So I decided to choose a graduate program which not only comes with credits all about making games but also with analysis and study of video games.

Video games are technocultural products of our time aimed to be entertaining and with the ever changing nature of technology and communication video games are the subject to change and evolve in many ways resulting to the formation of different arguments and viewpoints. Nowadays the role of video games is expanding from pure entertainment to a more serious and usable role. All of these terms make the field of video game an intact territory for study and research.

My interests and concerns are a mixture of technological, artistic and cultural issues which have raised questions and curiosity in my mind. Throughout the past years I have gained good skills in practical side of game development but to become a more capable professional in the field I need to learn more in theoretical side. I am very interested to conduct research and study on topics such as “Video Game Culture”, “Psychology of Video Games”, “Game Design”, “Aesthetics of Video Games” and “Emerging Media”. I’d also like to put the results and findings into practice by applying them in experimental video games to see how they work on players.

Frankly speaking at this point I am not sure which path of career in video games I am going to take after graduating. But considering my previous years of hard work and good marks I gained through my education and the deep enthusiasm that i feel for acquiring knowledge I am sure that I will do my best to

Thank you very much for considering my request. I hope that I will have the opportunity to prove my abilities in the master program. I look forward for your positive response.

Sincerely Yours,
XXX

Anyone interested to give me some comments on my SOP? I would really appreciate that cause English is not my native language and I should write a fine essay to get applied.
