Topic: write an artcle about the advantages and disadvantages of the TV in relation to children
TV or not Tv
What do you prefer children playing outdoor games or being hypnotize by the idiotic thing? Since it was invented in the 20’s, television has become another member of the family and children’s habits have changed as a result. It can not be denied that there have been some arguments about whether the box is a blessing or a curse for youngster’s growth. While some parents believe it is useful to educate and keep their sons out of dangerous situations, it has been a nightmare for others, who think it leads to laziness and violent behaviors.
On the one hand, television has obviously got its positive side. Not only is it a form of entertainment but also a way of bringing families together which can not afford going to the cinema or theatre. Additionally, TV promotes education through programs related to school subject, especially in the Discovery Channel, and social issues, such as the soap opera called “the Clon”. Above all, by getting youngsters interested in TV shows, they are kept off the unsafe streets.
On the other hand, however, there are also disadvantages. To begin with, the telly influences young people’s behavior in a negative way. More and more programs, like “Tom and Jerry” and “Ben 10”, broadcast extreme levels of violence which indirectly lead tots astray. Because of children innocence, youths are unable to distinguish between fact and fiction and they imitate those violent acts. Apart from that, it is considered a passive activity as they just have to watch the small screen. In this way, adolescents’ imagination is killed and not to mention the health problems it causes- muscular problems, eye damage, amog others. The troble is that teens spend so many hours in front of the TV that they do not do other activities, neither intellectual nor physical, which are essential for their age.
On balance, although television has spread far and wide as a way of entertainment and education, it must be used wisely. In this sense, parents are responsable of controlling which programs their sons watch and the amount of hours they spend in front of the TV.
