There are about 10 cities that have officially signed cooperation with domestic and foreign partners on the construction of Smart City in Vietnam, so far. Due to the difference of socio-economic characteristics as well as the consulting firms of different cities, each city has a different strategy to build Smart City.

However, the technical architectural framework of cities in Vietnam has many things in common: priority in the areas of transport, health, education, food safety, environment, energy, and construction. built on the e-government foundation. The impact of Smart City is very wide in many fields and on the whole community, so often cities pilot first or apply partially according to certain areas.

Vietnam is also striving to build a number of cities according to the Smart City model.

There are some opportunities we can benefit from apply it to our country:

Smart City is a strategic solution, utilizing technology to solve social problems: resource scarcity, environmental pollution, traffic congestion, waste disposal, healthcare, poverty, the infrastructure...

Smart City helps to change in terms of infrastructure, in terms of urban forms. Smart City links technical infrastructure, information technology, and social infrastructure to help the city manage and operate efficiently and consistently in all fields. Technology is applied to organize, design, plan and implement new solutions, helping to manage the city in a flexible and sustainable manner, under the supervision of the people.

However, there have also appeared a number of warnings about the impact and downside of Smart City, such as:

Infrastructure investment costs are large and need flexible application for each city, if applied inappropriately, it will cause negative consequences.

The huge amount of data collected raises concerns about information management and security. For example, facial recognition systems can be misused, leading to a breach of privacy.

This bias in applying this strategy may lead to ignoring other promising urban development options.

In general, Smart City is still appreciated by most experts, analysts, leaders and the people.

We already know Smart City is a city model that applies technology to improve the quality of the city, in terms of both management and use, and at the same time to reduce energy consumption and sustainable resource use.

I want to build an online residential community for modern citizens, capable of monitoring and even coordinating to support city management. A place where all residents can come to read information and discuss matters of interest.

Firstly, phase 1, I will build a website with the domain name: smartcityvietnam.vn with a tab menu including: news, forums, latest, members, etc...and then do media planning, timeline for promoting, budget and goals of the project. This project will be deployed on social platforms like Facebook, Zalo, Youtube, Google where young people usually active here using paid media format to acquire a number of users jointly forum, to become a member.

Secondly, I will review and analyze phase 1-after launching platform, then brainstorming what I will do in the next phases such as: content on the website, how to reach and interact with the audience, sharing events,...etc with long term goals. This needs a period of time and effort to see the results.

When I think of this idea, I hope every person living in Hanoi has been provided with deep knowledge about what a smart city is, and how our government is applying it in our lives. It is needed for smart residents in the future of smart cities.
