Please correct this

Hi. Please correct these. I think they are variations of what is basically the same thing.

He is staying home, (a comma necessary?) doing what he does best: watching TV and talking on the phone.

He is staying home, (a comma necessary?) doing what he does best that is/which is watching TV and talking on the phone.

They do basically say the same thing. There is no comma after "He is staying home" in either example. I would write it as follows: He is staying home doing what he does best, which is watching TV and talking on the phone, although using the colon as in your first example is okay too.
