PLEASE CORRECT THIS

Hi. Please correct this.

(pretend this is a speech given to a group work-place friends in a farewell party after 20 years in service at a Christian school)

Hi. It's nice to be here and thank you for coming to my farewell party. My twenty years went fast as it seems like yesterday that I first stepped into this school as XXX. I have seen a lot changes and made long-lasting friends along the way and I must say that my success couldn't have come without the support of my dear friends that I was fortunate to have both in and outside the school. Most importantly, I would like to thank God for always looking after me. One thing that saddens me about the school is that students seem to have accepted the fact that there always be war, famine and disasters and to the fact that they have no control over them; but I dare to challenge that and say there always is one thing they can do that can bring about mighty results and that is praying. I have seen miracles happen as a result of player. Keep praying because I know God likes humble hearts.

One more question, "Can we write 'the fact that' to refer to something that is not a fact (that stands the test of time) but a point to be raised as I seem to have done here?"
