Please correct them.

1. Greetings are customary exchanges of gestures and words,
by/through which[by using them] we can recognize how we are related to[how we are connected with] each other and how close we are.

2. Salutations are conventional interactions by gestures and words,
and by watching people exchange greetings, we can confirm their mutual social relationships[social status] and degree of intimacy.
