People have a different view about whether the government should or should not heavily invest in space projects. In my opinion, it is necessary to pay public money on these activities.
On the one hand, it can be argued that space science plays a vital role in human’s lives nowadays. Firstly, it could help to tackle many serious issues that our Earth is facing, ranging from environmental degradation to resource depletion if a new planet is explored successfully. A new planet can accommodate trillions of people and also address various problems, therefore, without investing in researching space, life on earth would be soon wiped out. Secondly, by discovering outer space, many chemical substances on other planets may be found out, which would help to deal with incurable diseases.
On the other hand, some people argue that spending public money on exploring other planets is considered a waste of nationally financial resource. They believe the state should put their limited amount of national budget into some essential sectors such as medicine, education, and national security. Obviously, these fields often bring people a wide range of tangible benefits for society compared to space science that often requires a huge amount of money as well as time to launch a new project that does not has any guarantee of success. For instance, it costs billions of dollars to construct a spacecraft and with only aa small technological error, it could explode immediately.
In conclusion, space science is a risky field but our whole world would positively change if people could successfully explore something new from other planets.
