Topic: In the past, most people lived in small villages where everyone knew everyone else. Nowadays, most people live in large cities where they only know a few people in their area. What do you think were the advantages and disadvantages of living in a small community?

Today, most individuals tend to settle in urban areas where they know a few residents, while in the past, people prefered to live in rural regions in which the interation between inhabitants is effective. In my opinion, there were some benefits and drawbacks of living in a small community.

It is true that in developed cities, heavy pollution has been a serious problem which resulted in extremely adverse effects on people's health. Therefore, if people lived in small areas, they might not worry about heath hazards which were caused by contaminated enviroment. Besides, living in a small community, people could less suffer from financial burden, which provided assistance for them to save money for other necessities such as education and medical services. This was because of the low living expense compared to major cities.

However, there were also some disadvantages of living in rural areas. To begin with, when people resided in small towns, access to advanced infrastructure was limited. For example, in many villages, parents could not provide proper education for their children owing to the lack of schools or universities with modern facilities. As a result, young people might not get many chances for intellectual development. In addition, there were few job opportunities for dwellers to land decent occupations in countryside, which leaded to the increase of unemployment. Thus, social crime rates became more and more common; and this was a tremendous detriment to the life and safety of rural residents.

In conclusion, I agree that there were undeniable pros and cons of living in a small community.
