The graph below shows the number of enquiries received by the Tourist Information Office in one city over a six-month period in 2011.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

The line graph illustrates how many questions the Tourist Information Office were asked in a city for half of the year 2011.

Overall, the amount of enquiries delivered in person and by telephone experienced an upward trend while those by letter or email showed a downward trend throughout the period.

In January, the questions quantities asked in person and by telephone were above 400 and about 900 respectively. Personally asked enquiries increased steadily, exceeding those by postal and online delivery in March and continued to rise sharply and peaked at more than 1900 in June. In the meantime, enquiries received by telephone fell slightly in February to 800 but then grew steadily until March and remained unchanged in one month. After that, the figures increased significantly to 1600 by June.

Conversely, the general trend of questions sent by letter or email is downward. It declined slightly from below 800 to about 700 and then dipped considerably from there to under 400 in May. Finally, there was no change in June.

WRITING TASK 2

Individuals can do nothing to improve the environment; only governments and large companies can make a difference.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

It is argued that the environment situation cannot be brightened by mere civilians but rather should be dealt with under the hands of governmental officials and famed corporations, the parties which are capable of reversing the situations. Personally, I completely disagree with this statement regarding the long-term effects and the thorough knowledge that could be brought to by individuals.

Firstly, such subtle changes made by each person would bring out drastic result in the future. If many more individuals take action towards the current situation, the changes being made could be comparable to those done by large parties. For instance, a vlogger in Vietnam called “Giang Oi” used her platform to advise people to live green, therefore her followers being influenced by her lifestyle start to change their usual habits and become more responsible towards the environment. Thus, individuals can also do wonders as more people are aware and start conserving the environment.

Secondly, individuals are able to act appropriately base on their knowledge about their own surroundings. In other words, they have more detailed and vivid realities of the neighborhood and could decide on the suitable plan for the environment. To embody, once in a while, the people in each ward of the city organize a day for the dwellers to sweep rubbish or to discipline the families who carelessly trash the road. That is why with the help of their own information, individuals could take the eligible course of action and improve the environment.

In conclusion, I believe that the impacts that could be made by individuals on bettering the environment are considerable regarding the increasing number of activists and how deeply they understand their surroundings.
