I'd like to help you, but I don't understand what you mean by, "I decided to do haul."

My best guess about what you meant, and how to say it correctly, would be:

"I did a little bit of shopping, and before I forgot what I bought, I decided to take my purchases home."

sam1947"I did a little bit of shopping, and before I forgot what I bought, I decided to take my purchases home."
Can you say:

I did a little bit of shopping, and before I forgot what I bought, I had decided to take my purchases home.

And I'm sorry I meant "a haul".

Your sentence:

I did a little bit of shopping, and before I forgot what I bought, I had decided to take my purchases home.

That is not correct. You could say:

I had done a little bit of shopping, and, before I had forgotten what I had bought, I decided to take my purchases home.

"a haul" doesn't make it any clearer for me. The only ways we use that term is if

The "had" is too redundant. Can't you just say

"I had done a little bit of shopping, and, before I forgot what I bought, I decided to take my purchases home."

Thanks

I agree that it is less cumbersome. Both are correct, but the shorter version is more natural.
