Please correct my plot summary

Hello. I had to write the plot summary of the story, "Necklace" by Gui De Maupassany within 200 to 300 words, but my plot summary exceeded 300 words. I do not know which words to omit. Also, I am not satisfied with my usage of vocabularies, word choosing, and grammar. I appreciate your help! Thank you.

Okay. Thank you! I fixed the tense to all present tense. How does it look now? Is it much better than before, or do I need more effort to fix it?
