In 2000, DVDS and CDs were sold with 35 billion dolars and 28 billion dolars respectively, while the sales of games software were at the lowest point at around 15 billion dolars. There were a significant growth in sales of games software and DVDs between 2000 to 2002, reaching to 19 billion dolar for games software and 27 billion dolars for DVDs while sales of CDs remained relatively constant approximately 32 billion dolars in the same year.

in contrast, worldwide sales of CDs witnessed a gradual decline during the year shown, falling 32 billion dolars in 2003. There was still slightly higher than sales of DVDs, which reached a pea of 30 billion dolars in 2003. In that year, games software sales also rose again, finishing at 19 billion dolars.
