Please correct my mistakes...

Hi,

I am having trouble figuring out if the following sentence is right or not... Can you please tell me how many mistakes there are and maybe rephrase it so it will be correct? ( <- please help me with the last part of this question as well...)

"The longer it (the shirt) stays out in the rain, the more it will deteriorate"

Is "The longer it is left out in the rain, the more..." a better way of formulating it?

Thanks,

Andrew

  • Both versions are OK.
  • I prefer #1, because the active voice is more direct, and because the second part of the senence is also in active voice.

Thank you for your quick reply!

Also, you didn't say anything about the italic part of my initial question... does this mean it is correct?

Cheers,

Hi again,

Actually, I did look for some synonyms before posting the question, but I couldn't find a better alternative, so perhaps you could suggest me a few...

In what way do you think it will deteriorate?

Also, you didn't say anything about the italic part of my initial question... does this mean it is correct? Yes.

Well, I was thinking that it will deteriorate in the same way in which clothes that have been washed for too many times do... The colour wears off, the fabric gets rougher... So how can I express this?

Regards!

When referring to clothing, it is probably better to use "wear out" instead of "deteriorate."
