Topic: In many countries, a small number of people earn extremely high salaries. Some people believe that this is good for the country, but others think that governments should not allow salaries above a certain level. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
My answer:
There is a widespread belief that governments should introduce a maximum wage. While it seems reasonable that employees can earn as much as companies are willing to pay, personally I believe that limited levels of remuneration are an essential aspect of employment.
There are several reasons why some people might find it beneficial to get extremely high salaries. Firstly, if companies offer generous salary packages, they may attract the most skilled and experienced workers. Technology companies such as Google and Apple possess the world’s best programmers due to their competitive salaries. Secondly, well-paid employees are likely to be highly motivated, which means that they devote themselves to working hard and doing businesses successfully. In theory, this also contributes to both economic growth and increased taxpayers’ money, thus resulting in a major impact on the population as a whole.
In spite of the above arguments, I support the view that the salary payment should be clearly defined. In doing so, the pay gap between bosses and employees can be reduced significantly. It has been currently proven that huge pay differentials probably demotivate many workers, as they consider it to be an unfair treatment. It is therefore crucial for governments to lower executive salaries and raise minimum wages, which would make all employees satisfied with their current jobs. Another possible outcome might be that poverty and crime rates fall owing to improved standards of living.
In conclusion, although there is no doubt that highly-paid jobs appeal to considerable numbers of people, I strongly believe that governments should put limitations on salary into effect.
