Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Write at least 150 words.

(CENTER)

The diagram illustrates how a hydroelectric power station produces electricity from flow of water.

Overall, there are two different process taking place in the power plant during daytime and nighttime. It converts the kinetic energy of flowing water to mechanical energy of turbines to generate electricity.

During daytime, water stored in a high-level reservoir behind the dam flows through the open intake under the dam to the reversible turbines at lower level via a long tunnel (penstock). After having been activated by the flow of water, those turbines operate the generator which produces electricity. Then, electricity is transmitted to the national grid via power lines; water is stored in a low-level reservoir.

At night, water is pumped back to the high-level reservoir thanks to the reversible turbines. The intake is then closed to keep the water with a certain amount so that this hydroelectric power station is ready for the daytime process
