In "Reality TV Meets Plastic Surgery" Anita Creamer says how she thinks plastic surgery reality TV shows are an assault in human dignity. she gives her readers examples from lift stories taken from reality TV shows such as, "I Want a Famous Face", "The Swan", and "Extreme Makeover". I definitely agree with Anita Creamer that these shows are an "Ugly Shame", entertainment to viewers, and alot of the time have very insecure patients.
In the show "Dr. 90210" I believe the patients are insecure because the only way they can actually feel good about themself is to go on a reality tv series to get plastic surgery. I believe everybody wishes they could change something about themself but the majority of them wouldn't resort to plastic surgery. Not only are patients on "Dr. 90210" willing to go as far as getting a procedure done but they are also interested in their fiften minutes of fame.
These patients on TV are so confused and gullible that they listen to people who are only interested in getting them to spend their money. The results are typically descent but alot of the people on the show have a false impression and believe the results are going to be way beyond what is even humanly possible to accomplish. They will do anything to try to look perfect and are willing to dedicate their lives and invest huge amounts of money for a dream that may not even be attainable. Most people say they are having plastic surgery for themselvs and noone else but it's really for others to view them different as well. When they finally get the attention they like that they weren't getting before it's because they spent alot of money on surgery and people aren't seeing the true person. Their biggest goal is finally acomplished when their surgery is done, whereas, I don't see how looking like a fake person could ever be one of my main goals in life. I have bigger ambissions in life such as getting an education, having enough money to live my lifestyle without struggling, and spending as much time with my loved ones as possible.
These type of shows are enertainment to viewers in all types of ways. A lot of viewers are hoping for a good outcome and want the patient to be happy and feel good about themself once the procedure is complete. On the other hand there are viewers who get entertainment only with another persons downfall and hope the procedure turns out horrible. There also are alot of viewers who just enjoy watching it and don't care how the procedure turns out either way. Some people get amusement out of these programs and think it's comical while others are actually considering getting this type of procedure done and are watching the program for educational purposes.
