Developments in technology have brought various environmental problems. Some people believe that people need to live simpler lives to solve environmental problems. Other, however, technology is the way to solve these problems. Discuss both views and give your opinion

In order to tackle environmental issues, some traditionalists propose a return to a simpler lifestyle. Others, myself included, argue that technology offers the best solution for environmental problems.

There are legitimate grounds to support the low-tech approach as a way to resolve environmental issues. The low-tech approach might involve individuals becoming more environmentally aware, and reducing consumption in key areas. This could add up to a significant global impact overall. If people were in favor of Earth hour and turned off all electricity for sixty minutes per day then substantial savings of the huge number of electrical power would be made. Second, alternative commuting patterns could put people in a strong position to reduce their carbon footprint and mitigate global warming. A switch from driving the car to walking, cycling, using public transit is a small step but can help reduce climate change.

It is, however, believed that technological achievements play a functional role in environmental protection in our contemporary society. One reason is that heavier investments in a renewable source of energy diminish our reliance on traditional supplies which emit air pollutants on the surroundings. Thanks to technological advances, sunlight is now converted into solar energy holds many promises for replacing fossil fuel. Another reason is that advancements in technology also alleviate the pressing issues of waste disposal. There is a strong probability that highly wastes treatment systems not only boost the effectiveness and efficiency in gathering untreated waste but also facilitate recycling garbage.

Although both views certainly can be justified to some extent, it seems to me that advances in technology are already providing many solutions and this trend will gather pace in the future.
