Question: Many old buildings protected by law are part of a nation’s history. Some people think they should be knocked down and replaced by news ones.
How important is it to maintain old buildings?
Should history stand in the way of progress?
Many old buildings protected by law are part of a nation’s history. Some people think they should be knocked down and replaced by news ones. In fact, I'm not that fascinated/fan by/of this idea although I encourage creating new buildings. Personally I love every thing to be new overall. As I encourage the idea of creating new buildings, I think that every thing has its own value. Regarding old buildings which are identified as historical landmarks, they have a big value in my view; their value comes from their oldness. Their oldness tells a story about nations' history.
Nations' history include living and old civilizations.
People who support knocking down these building could argue that being historical not that matter. They simplify being historical as a natural thing; we are living in new buildings now and one day, our present will become a history. In fact, that seems right at first sight, but I have a convinced answer for such thinking. If I turn a blind eye on the value of historical landmarks as being historical, then I would say, these historical buildings on the other hand have a significant role on raising the economic of a country; that's would be through "Tourism". Those landmarks whenever were attract million of people around the world every year. Many tourists love travelling to visit them and take photos. Thus, people who might not value the old buildings as being historical must have valued the importance of enabling/activating economic.
In relation to the views that say old buildings would stand in the way of progress, I would answer on such a claim by saying that any country wouldn't turn the whole its land into historical landmarks and should not do so. It would just take certain limited areas. Furthermore, such a project wouldn't apply on all the old buildings, it would only apply on the old buildings that are classified and proved to be historical landmarks.
In my opinion, I think it's fascinating to see a country combined between history and development. When you walk into its roads and between its alleys, It would make you feel as if your were walking in history and among extremely old civilizations while you are living in the depth of progress.
Yes, the only thing that I strongly disagree about in this topic is to turn wide areas of a country into historical landmarks in a way that there is no more any place for citizens to live in. If there were such thing, it would be ridiculous(silly) and unrealistic.
In conclusion, it's important to give everything its own value, and to keep nations' history. In the same time, to be modest in handling such issue.
Please, after correcting my writing, tell me frankly how would you evaluate my essay based on IELTS / Tofel criteria?
Any criticism or important notes would be highly appreciated.
Thank you
