In some cities, there are old buildings that are historically important but not very useful. Should governments try to save these buildings?

This happens in some cities that historic structures begin to lose their practical value despite being theoretically critical. The governments should try to preserve them by considering these things:
The history of a country is indispensable in education. Students need to acquire knowledge and have esteem for their ancestors' presence and things they left to their next generations. Thus, if historical buildings are demolished, we will show disrespect to our forefathers, to our history. From awareness to action, students will learn to respect and protect historical sites. The past is not something that can be recreated, that's why keeping it permanently is an assignment for all the people, especially students.
What governments have to face as well, the payment for destroying buildings is not only ineffective but also wasteful. We need to look into their actual value before assessing if it is either useful or a waste. People can make extensive renovations for tourism, business purposes instead of trying to refuse its appearance. This solution should be supported in order to exploit all of their features while the money spent is economical and effective.
It is a fact that historical buildings are no longer beneficial to be in use. The sign of the past can not be denied, so that long-term solutions should be made.
