Governments should spend money on railways rather than roads. To what extend do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Answers:

It is sometimes argued that authorities ought to allocate more budget on railways rather than roads. While I accept that trains can play a key part to the transport system, I also argue that roads should be invested more money.

On the one hand, trains could bring some main benefits. First, trains are considered far safer than vehicles being used on roads. This can be easily understandable since there are various vehicles such as cars, motorbikes, bikes on roads while there is often one train in a railway at a certain time. Secondly railways are a better option for cheap transportation for those companies that have high demand on freight services. Using trains can help them reduce considerable amount of money. For example, my father’s company turned into using trains to transport products from Saigon to Hanoi instead of big trucks as they did in the past, and therefore, they save 20% of money in the duration.

On the other hand, roads also have some significant benefits. Firstly, roads connects together to a wide network that is convenient for people to get specific places. This network cannot be built by railways, so we never find a railways route to connect your house and your schools or workplaces. Secondly, if a road is on maintenance process, drivers could often find alternative roads easily to get their destination. Meanwhile, when there is any incident on railways such as an accident, trains are often stuck for a long time before the rescue team comes.

In conclusion, as for investing in transport infrastructure, I believe that government should invest more money on building roads.
