Please correct me

"You called me earlier today?"

"Yes, I just want/wanted to make sure that my daughter can/could still expect to see you tonight. Because she's really looking forward to it."

What would be most natural between want/wanted and can/could? To me wanted and can sound best but I don't know if it's ok to mix tenses? What do you think?
