When I saw the clip of Madrid Final tournament 2014 between Kei Nishikori and Rafael Nadal, I realized that Kei had transformed himself significantly. Despite that Nadal might not be at his best, Kei looked stronger than ever, more confident, better game plan, and had more weapons at his disposal. He outplayed Nadal in many fronts: serve, cross court, inside out, and volleying. He had better footwork. Whatever it was, Nishikori must have practicing very hard to get to this level.
