Topic: Consumers are faced with increasing numbers of advertisements from competing companies. To what extent do you think consumers are influenced by advertisements? What measures can be taken to protect them?

Answer:

In the era of technological advancement, advertisements have developed considerably on all kinds of media which attract millions of viewers. This can result in some negative effects on consumers, and there are numerous possible solutions to remedy the problems.

It is evident that advertising might cause a large number of troubles for consumers in the long term. First, shopping addiction is one of the biggest problems created by advertisements because with the support of modern technologies, adverts are likely to become more attractive than ever before by using visual effects, vibrant sound, processed mages. As a result, people have a tendency to buy unnecessary things so that they can only satisfy their curiosity for advertised products rather than read needs. Another problem is deceptive advertisements which can lead customers to wrong decisions when they want to buy something. In fact, many companies desire to maximize their profit and buy as many products as possible, therefore, they are willing to provide misleading information to viewers about their products or services.

There are various steps that governments may take to fix all of the problems mentioned above. For one thing, states should enact stricter laws that are able to force advertisers to comply with established regulations. By doing so, companies deceiving customers are punished seriously to ensure that all adverts provide people with precise information. More importantly, from the perspective of personal customers, it is advisable that people should be vigilant to the accuracy of advertising information. To be specific, before buying any advertised items, they should consult experts about the quality of products. For example, a wide range of adverts about supplementary diets are mentioned to able to treat fatal diseases such as cancer or HIV/AIDS, so people should get advice from doctors to check the truth of information.

In conclusion, the adverse effects of advertising are more and more serious these days, and measures should be taken urgently to counteract the problems as soon as possible.
