please check this sentence/relitive pronoun

This place was not the same place that I live in today, and for that I have only Mike to thank.



Is the bolded sentence correct? Also, how do I know when it's OK to omit the relitive pronoun 'that'?

The sentence is OK. Basically, you can omit the relative pronoun that in a restrictive clause when the restrictive clause begins with a subject:

I have a dog that barks incessantly. (You cannot omit the word that.)
I have a dog (that) my neighbors hate. (You can omit the word that. "My neighbors" is the subject of the clause.)
