Please check this for me

One has arrived at a party:

Not sure where to go or who to talk to, he just stood at the edge of the party, humbly greeting people passing by. "Happy new year"... "Happy new year"... But everybody just ignored him.

Is this grammatical and natural? Any small thing you would change about it?
