Please check these sentences.

I had been ready to go to the party but somebody showed up to our house and said the party had been canceled. Correct?

I have been trying to learn how to use past perfect tense. What the reason that we can't use past perfect there? Past perfect can be used to show something happened before something happened in the past. Here, Getting ready happened before somebody showed up at the house. Right?
