Please allow me to be brave and excuse me if I am not swift enough. Maybe it too early for me...

I got the idea of your letter (I think) but I seemed to have a little trouble understanding the real issue here. Are you writing to petition a protest as a guardian on behalf of Simon ? My suggestion is that when you write something like that in the future, make an introduction of yourself to establish who you are and state the nature of the matter clearly. This part of the letter is rather vauge and obscure, IMO...?

I am afraid, I couldn't actually get what about this part seems vague or obsure to you.. I just want to tell the teacher that what she has done to the student is actually wrong, but politely. As per the law of mathematics she or anyone else cannot make a sum wrong, if the way the problem has been worked out is comprehensible and the answer is correct. What if the student (Simon) has used another method to find the solution. The teacher must have done and learned it another way. I, thereby, want the teacher to allow the student to be flexible in Mathematics and also want her to award him that one mark too.

Hope you got my point.

By the way, a lot of thanks for visiting the post and commenting on th e issue raised by me. I really very nice, thoughtful and brave of you.

I was merely sharing with you my perspective of your letter. I did say “I got the idea”; didn't I? Since you “begged” so sincerely, so I gave you my honest opinion. Responding to your comments, I’d say this. Writing letters aside, if we ask a few people to describe an object, or to deliver a detailed account of some kind, the same topic may show up in different shades of colors, tones and clarity. The point of my comment was, the intended thoughts or contents by one author may or may not be the same as the rest and therefore the delivery will be perceived respectively. The difference is in the thought composition, rhetoric, fluency and clarity in the delivery. If I had caused you any mental anguish, or irritated feeling by comments I made, please don’t take it personal. There are good advices and not so good ones in any forum. You are the one to decide which good ones to keep and discard. But responding to the helpers with an attitude won’t advance your cause. I’ve learned through experience, defensiveness is an unfavorable quality.

My Dear Goodman,

There seems to be a great misconception. Let me take it to its grave. You did NOT say anything that would cause me any mental anguish, or irritate me in any way. In fact, I respect and appreciate your comments and perspective from the bottom of my heart. To me attitude just means a personal view of something, it can be positive or negative. However, I always try to keep it positive. I can be a little casual at times but don't mean any harm. At work I like to have a healthy skepticism about the management. It keeps me from taking them serious and thus prevents me from getting too upset about their stupidity.

The advices you have offered me are very precious, and a very few people offer such advices. You people are the precious gifts of ***, and I dare not disrespect you ever. I apologize, if you think I have offended you in some way.

By the way, I did NOT "beg". I just made a request, because I think "begging" can be irritating.

So, shall we get back to the letter now? Could you please tell me if there are ANY grammar mistakes in it?

Allow me to tell you / to remind you that Simon has obtained a grade of 9 out of a possible 10 on the test he took on Monday, though all the solutions are correct. As far as I know the laws of Mathematics state that a solution cannot be wrong, if it is comprehensible and if the conclusion is correct. A problem can be solved by using a variety of methods. Even so, I have told him to follow your method. At the same time, I hope you would kindly allow him to use another method if he is unable to go on with the method you have required. I would also like you to review his test and reconsider his grade/ mark, because I think he might ,otherwise, lose self-confidence and desire to continue studying this subject.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your honest reply. If it’s a misperception, let’s call it even.

This type of letter is rather personal. How you composed a letter of this nature may make a difference between succeeding or failing the effort. It’s hard for another person to offer you opinions without changing the wording and tone.

By the way, the revised version overall looked ok. Is “solution” the same as “answer” in Mathematics ?

I agree that you should introduce yourself unless the teacher knows who you are. Otherwise they will wonder what right you have to question their marking? I'd make it slightly less confrontational as well.
